Recent Extra Help Qualification

Recipients of Extra Help have a very special opportunity afforded to them to add, drop or change their Medicare Advantage and/or Prescription Drug plan(s) through the Special Election Period (SEP). The SEP is an eligibility period available specifically to recipients of Extra Help and Medicare. It enables Medicare plan changes outside of the Annual Enrollment Period (AEP).

What can I do?

Join, switch, or drop Medicare prescription drug coverage.

When can I do this?

One time during each of these periods:

  1. January–March
  2. April–June
  3. July–September

If you make a change, it will take effect on the first day of the following month. You’ll have to wait for the next period to make another change. You can’t use this Special Enrollment Period from October–December. However, all people with Medicare can make changes to their coverage from October 15–December 7 during AEP, and the changes will take effect on January 1.
